The highlight of last week: strangers in our home

This week has had its own highlights, but last week there was a snowstorm. Driving ten miles south down slippery, snowy I-25 I decided to cancel my PT appointment and a much-anticipated visit to Amanda and turn back. Heading north I came upon a car freshly gone off the road. There were two people in it with brake lights on. So I slowed down and after my own anti-lock brake action, managed to stop. It turned out they were two Australian girls on a road trip who'd never driven in weather like that in their life.

Enter my first chance ever to care for strangers on my own turf, as so many have done for me! I tempted the girls with an offer of lunch and a dad who knew a thing or two about cars and mechanics. Thus our highlight of Alex and Katie, Melbourne residents, on a road trip from Orlando to Las Vegas to Mt. Rushmore to San Francisco. Their car ended up having only cosmetic damage, and they stayed the night.

Having had some experience with this sort of thing, we couldn't have done better to have these two delightful guests in our home. And also from experience, they couldn't have done much better for combination of helpful dad, doting mother who happened to love Melbourne, veteran of the road - yours truly, clean sheets, good food, free internet, hot showers, and a roaring fireplace.
