Ben's not the only one in the family who wins photo awards

I say this tongue-in-cheek because while I did win a photo contest last week, I was competing against four other decidedly amateur (as am I) photographers. It was the Sierra Trading Post Travel Photo Adventure Contest. And for whatever other minimizing things I might say, like I was the only person in attendance when the prize was given, I did get a $250 voucher to my favorite shopping destination.

In other news, I saw the film Of Gods and Men (Des hommes et des dieux) yesterday. It's the story of seven monks living in North Africa at a time when religious fundamentalists begin killing foreigners. The story is about their conflict over a decision to stay or go in the midst of the fear, and their lives of service and contemplation. It was very poignant for me, as well as showcased a part of the world whose culture and countryside I find so beautiful. Four stars.
