Soapweed Stampede

Dan, cartographer

This year's annual Labor Day Bike Ride moved from the greenways of Cheyenne to the pastures of Chugwater. Charlie maintained his perfect attendance since the inaugural season, the only one of the eight 1980-1990 set still in the running, before cutting out early for a football game in Laramie. Don rode his classic, truly classic, Sears racing bike.

We stopped by Linda and Victor A's' house at the halfway point. We knew Linda liked to garden, but none of us could believe the gardens. I hadn't been there during a growing season since 2000, at which point she was running peacocks and guinea hens but hadn't yet designed and built the gazebo or potted 150 succulents of the world individually. It's stunning, fifteen years worth of work to build an oasis. It is primarily purpose is to tempt birds, both resident and migratory, but now looks like a fairyland the likes of which are unequaled in the county. I'm sending Linda my three baobab seeds with utmost confidence.

We returned to brunch of egg casserole, butterscotch rolls, and fruit salad. Fun was had by all.
