Last year for Christmas, Pam gave me a $25 Kiva card.
Kiva is a microfinance organization that connects lenders to individuals or collectives who use small loans to start small businesses. Kiva has a sponsored promotion on now that allows new lenders $25 with which to make loans. Then, over time the money is paid back and you can make a new loans. (There is a $2 or $3 administrative fee with each loan). My current loan is to a hairdresser in Lebanon. If you're interested, you should click through the link sooner than later, because in previous promotions the money went pretty fast.
Also, their fellowship looks pretty awesome, with a May 13 deadline for this year's cohort.
