These winter months are prime seal-hunting time for great whites off the coast of South Africa. There's a tiny, stinky island 20 miles from the cape with a colony of 20,000 seals surrounded by deep channels making it particularly attractive for the hunting sharks. As perhaps nowhere else in the world, great whites will breach as they hunt seals swimming at the surface.

Ummm...Are you serious? You did this? Did Tom see anything from the cage? Did he trail chum in the water? (Shark week in August on Nickolodean is highly educational for terms like "chum.") Did you really see one jump? How big? Sounds very fascinating. . . at least from about 8000 miles away.
