Koltur

My friend Elliott has come to the Faroe Islands this week. In contrast to his day job of public health research in the south of India, we're keeping a full schedule of hiking in remote places.

Today, he, Abby, and I took a helicopter out to Koltur. It's a stunning little island inhabited by one Faroese couple raising Highland cattle, sheep, and chickens among Viking ruins. In addition to calf whispering, which was unfortunately unsuccessful, we hiked the edge of the island/mountain. It's essentially a 1,500 ft cliff coming out of the water.

Absolutely gorgeous--and I love highland cattle. On Ace of Cakes (a food network show) they once made a cake that looked like a highland cow. It was incredibly neat.
